Trees & Shrubs that catch my attention

Postby growin on Thu Sep 10, 2009 12:32 am

Sometimes I come across trees & shrubs that are virtually unknown but deserve a bit more attention. I'll add a few here to see what ya all think.

Melliodendron xylocarpum is a tree related to Styrax and produces large pink blooms in late spring. I'm not sure where you'd find it to buy but it's well worth the search and it is supposedly pretty hardy to cold. The blooms are about 3 times the size, if not more, than Styrax japonicus.

Lovely. Will look forward to seeing more trees, shrubs and perennials. Thanks for posting your photos.

Great picture and pretty tree.

I believe Greer Gardens currently offers this plant. Too bad it's only hardy to around zone 7 or 8.

Beautiful!
